Coates Golf: Revolutionizing Women's Golf

With a full line of clubs focused on providing women with performance rather than suggesting what women need most is forgiveness, Coates Golf is empowering and equipping women to expect more from the game.

Golf Fashion: Lizzie Driver All-American

The All-America collection from Lizzie Driver it the second of three collections for spring/summer. Styles feature crisp red, white and blues with a dash of pink.

One of our favorite tops is the Cadet, a woven tunic top in red and blue plaid. Looks great at the 19th hole over a pair of crip white shorts or cropped pant.

Lizzie Driver also offers most of their skorts in two different lengths: 15.5" and 18.5". The shorter length is a bit sportier and appeals to a woman who wants to show off their legs while still looking classy.

A little nod to Caddyshack, the whimsical Lizzie Driver Ancestor Polo is inspired by the by daughter of Bushwood Golf Club's owner. She wore this beautiful Fila knit piece with vertical stripes and a red collar, so they mimicked that for a little bit of a throwback.

Let us know what you love about the new Lizzie Driver collection.

Golf Fashion: Color Trends 2016

CHASE54: SPRING 2016 COLLECTIONS

PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2016

Influenced by the world of art, new global doors opening and the desire to disconnect from technology and unwind, designers this season have gravitated toward a palette that is first and foremost calming. Paying homage to the beauty of natural resources, colors emerging in the Spring collections serve as vehicles that transport wearers to more tranquil, mindful environs which encourage relaxation first, followed by curiosity and exploration.

Designers were also inspired by the contrast of urban design and lush vegetation, leading to unexpected color combinations and collections reminiscent of architecture, travel and nostalgia. By creating looks that truly represent the world we live in, both constructed and organic, designers sought to awaken a sense of reflection, followed by playful escapism. Artists, many of whom are known for bold color usage and strong shapes and lines, played an influential role in this season's styles – from Matisse, Picasso and Frank Stella to Esther Stewart and Sam Falls. With Cuba and other destinations south of the border top of mind, designers are playing with courageous color statements that aren't afraid to be vibrant but at the same time are combined with quieting, classic and more natural tones.

"Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "With our culture still surrounded by so much uncertainty, we are continuing to yearn for those softer shades that offer a sense of calm and relaxation."

A Unisex Palette

Colors this season transcend cultural and gender norms. Vivid brights give way to excitement and optimism, though quiet stability prevails in this season’s palette. For Spring 2016 there are truly no perceivable distinctions in color choices between the men’s and women’s collections, both of which focus on a desire to breathe and reflect, then play.

  • The soothing, calming nature of colors in the Spring collections are led by Rose Quartz, a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Like a serene sunset, flushed cheek or budding flower, Rose Quartz reminds us to reflect on our surroundings during the busy but lighthearted spring and summer months.
  • The fashion and design communities, and consequently, consumers, have been in love with orange for several seasons. Coming to the fore this Spring is, Peach Echo, a shade that emanates friendlier qualities, evoking warmth and accessibility. It is an all-encompassing, tempered companion in the playful orange family.
  • Weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, Serenity comforts with a calming effect, bringing a feeling of respite even in turbulent times. A transcendent blue, Serenity provides us with a naturally connected sense of space.
  • A maritime-inspired blue, Snorkel Blue plays in the navy family, but with a happier, more energetic context. The name alone implies a relaxing vacation and encourages escape. It is striking yet still, with lots of activity bursting from its undertones.
  • While the majority of the Spring/Summer palette trends toward calmness, a few diversions from the theme emerge that offer a contrast. With Buttercup designers reveal a shining beacon transporting its wearer to a happier, sunnier place.
  • A shade of aqua that leans toward the green family, Limpet Shell is clear, clean and defined. Suggestive of clarity and freshness, its crisp and modern influences evoke a deliberate, mindful tranquility.
  • As in most any season, the need for neutrals arises. Essentially a basic, the subtlety of the lilac undertone in, Lilac Gray, adds a distinctive edge to this classic gray shade.
  • The high energy Fiesta is a harbinger of excitement, encouraging free-spirited exploration to unknown but welcoming locales. A strong and fiery, yellow-based red, the vivid Fiesta provides a stark contrast to the calming, softer nature of this season’s palette.
  • A transitional color that will take us through the seasons, Iced Coffee manifests as another strong neutral for the season. With its natural earthy quality, the softness and subtlety of Iced Coffee creates a stable foundation when combined with the rest of this season’s palette.
  • Green Flash calls on its wearer to explore, push the envelope and escape the mundane, radiating an openness that combines with the rest of the palette in unexpected but serendipitous ways. The popularity of this brilliant hue is representative of nature’s persistent influence even in urban environments, a trend continuing to inspire designers.

Game Changer: Heated Jackets for Women

TURN UP THE HEAT!

Heading out for cold weather play, tailgating or spectating? How great would it be to wrap yourself in a heated jacket. Yes, heated. All Gyde jackets, vests and gloves for women are battery operated and heat up to 135° F. Does The North Face do that? Nope, sure doesn't.

There are five styles of Gyde Jackets and Vests but my personal favorite is the Gyde Womens Hybrid Heated Jacket. It's designed with three Microwire™ heating zones built into the jacket: one in the collar and two in the chest (one on each side of the quilted front).

The sleeves and back are designed with Polartec ™ Power Stretch Pro fleece, making it great for golf or pretty much any activity you do outside this winter.

Each jacket comes with dual mode 7 volt battery and wall charge. At full battery (135° F) you will get 2-hours of heat. But most people keep it at 50% and get 5-6 hours of battery life. But wait, there is more!

Gyde offers a Bluetooth Powered Thermgauge adapter and a super friendly app for your iOS or
android device. What that means is, for an extra $50, you can adjust the heat of your jacket with an app on your smartphone. They've thought of everything.

We have several customers who wear this for golf, but the majority wear it for spectating at their child's outdoor sporting events, hockey rinks, professional sporting events, walking the dog . . . shoveling! Basically, if you go outside this winter you will want this jacket.

If you have any questions, let us know. But we guarantee you will find a reason to go outside when you have this jacket.

Let us know what you think or have any questions.

Why Golf is Good For Girls

WhyGolf2

Because It’s a Lifetime Sport

With all of the options available for sports—soccer, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, ice skating, track, cross country—the question “why golf?” may surely come up as kids choose their activities. I know it did for me. As a high school freshman, I begged my dad to let me go out for the swim team instead of golf. I was looking for a “real sport” I told him.

By Abbey Algiers for GirlsGolf.org

My dad’s response went something like this: “You want to go out for a real sport like swimming? Really? What are you going to do with swimming in the future . . . go on a date with someone and say “hey, baby, let’s swim around this lake?’ No. You’re going to play golf. You’re going to pick a lifetime sport.” He wasn’t just pushing golf so I could go on dates, but I’m so glad he did make that point. He was right. Golf turned out to be a great social asset for me in many areas of my life. (Heck, I taught my husband how to play golf while we were dating.) Now, not only do my husband and I play golf together, we also play with my mom and dad. That’s a little more fun than all of us jumping in a lake for a swim.

True, I could’ve gone out for swimming and learned how to play golf later in life. But the truth is, the older we get the less time we have to devote to learning something as complex and time-consuming as golf. A friend of mine has four kids—all of them involved in about a million activities (sadly, none golf, but I’m working on it). Her husband’s passion is golf. Unfortunately, she doesn’t play and simply doesn’t have the time to learn it, much less get comfortable enough to really play the game. Another friend of mine is a pharmaceutical rep whose company often asks her to play on outings. Not only are these chances to play gorgeous courses and get away from the office, they’re also great networking opportunities. But guess what? My friend was a swimmer in high school and doesn’t play golf.

The bottom line is, golf is a social, lifetime sport that offers countless chances for adults to network and spend time with friends, partners and family. It helps to know the game—the rules, clubs, and mechanics of the sport—coming into adulthood instead of picking it up and trying to squeeze it in between work, family and other responsibilities.

As you and your child are considering activities, give the many benefits of junior golf a thought:

BREEZING THROUGH THE EARLY STAGES
It’s much easier to make golf mistakes and learn from them as a child than as an adult. Golf is fun but can be challenging at the start. If people start playing as kids, they work through that “awkward golfer” phase much faster than they would as an adult.

THE MORAL LESSONS
When you expose your kids to golf, you’re exposing them to valuable lessons in honesty, respect and integrity. Yes, you’re teaching them a game, but you’re also teaching them the rules of life.

PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE
Like any game, golf can be frustrating, but by learning to play it, your child will pick up good character traits and learn what dedication to a sport can deliver. Unlike other sports that can easily wind a kid up, golf encourages taking time to be thoughtful and steady. Instead of just doing, young golfers learn to think and get to know themselves both inside and out.

AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP
Teaching your kid golf is an investment in your present and future relationship with her. Not all sports offer you the chance to actually get out there and play the game with your children for years to come. Even if they don’t realize it now, someday they’ll look back and thank you for the exposure to the game and the time you spent with them. They’ll also be the ones setting up a tee time so you can enjoy a day together on the course, which, I have to say, is so much better than swimming around a lake.
