Lydia Ko Wins 10th LPGA Title, Makes History—Again
![]() |
By LPGA Communications |
The Lydia Ko legacy continued to grow this week in Taiwan as the 18-year old broke more records, set personal milestones and reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings with her nine-stroke victory at the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship. Ko shot a final-round of 7-under 65 to finish well ahead of Eun-Hee Ji and Se Yeon Ryu for a 20-under par 268 total.
The win marks Ko’s 10th career LPGA Tour victory and she becomes the youngest male or female to reach 10 wins at 18 years, 6 months and 1 day old. She breaks Nancy Lopez’s LPGA record (22y/2m/5d) by nearly 3 ½ years.
Ko dedicated the win to former New Zealand Golf President Patsy Hankins who passed away earlier this week and someone Ko considers a mentor in her junior days. “And I think I was really playing for Patsy this week,” said Ko. “I think just hearing that on Friday morning broke my heart. She was such a huge factor into my life in my junior golf. To hear that she had passed away was very hard to hear that before you’re entering a round. But kind of just played for her the last three days, and I’m so happy that I can bring this win to her and her family.”
Ko’s nine-stroke margin of victory marks the largest of her career and largest on Tour this season. She won her first major title last month by six shots at the Evian Championship. Ko started the day with a four-shot lead over Eun-Hee Ji and looked unflappable throughout her final round of 65, which included six birdies, one bogey and an eagle. She birdied four of her first six holes to extend her lead to six and dropped her only shot on the par-3, 7th hole. “I started the day quite good, making birdies on 2 and 3 and I then I made birdie on 5 which is a three-shot swing for me,” said Ko. “Made a double there yesterday.”
Eun-Hee Ji failed to take advantage of Ko’s birdie drought on holes 8-11 then Ko turned it on with a pitch in eagle on the par-4 12th hole to go ahead by seven. A birdie putt on No. 14 extended her lead to eight and then sealed the deal in style chipping from a tough greenside lie to a foot on the 18th for birdie. “I hit a good tee shot. Pulled my 3-wood a little bit, but then I looked up and I told Jason, ‘I can’t even see the ball properly.’ So it wasn’t the greatest lie. And I was actually worried I was going to double-hit it, so I kind of recoiled back. But no, it ended up being good. Yeah, I don’t mind one-footers to win the event.”
Ko now leads the Tour in nearly every major statistical category including Official Money, Race to CME Globe Points, Scoring Average, Rolex Player of the Year and Top-10’s.

Golf4Her: In The Rough With Stefanie Kenoyer
Had a chance to catch up with pro Golfer and Golf4Her Ambassador Stephanie Kenoyer over the holiday weekend!
Here's what Stephanie had to say:
1. Who inspired you to start playing golf? Or was it just always of interest to you?
Actually my paternal grandmother was a great golfer and won several amateur championships back when women weren’t playing all that much golf! Unfortunately she died before I was born but I believe I had it in my blood and I didn’t even know it! I didn’t start playing until I was 13 though because I was interested in several other sports before golf. However I am so glad I settled on golf!
2. What is your go-to or favorite snack to always keep in your golf bag?
Almonds and a PB&J Sandwich
3. What was the best advice you were ever given? (success in golf or just everyday life)
The best advice I have ever received was to never ever give up and to always forgive yourself. I am very hard on myself and whenever I go through a tough patch or a time when I am not playing well I have a tendency to beat myself up a bit. This year is the first year I have looked at golf as more of a journey that might take a little while to get to where I want to be and that’s okay. Instead of putting so much pressure on myself to achieve all of my goals right this minute, I am giving myself the room to really enjoy what I do every day and work hard to become better a little bit each day. Now that I took some of the pressure off, I am playing so much better!
4. What has been your biggest accomplishment so far?
Probably qualifying to play in the US Open in 2009, it was the tournament that inspired me to want to play professionally.
5. Are you involved in any charities? If so, why that specific one?
Well this year I worked with a sponsor, Iain Thomson, to run a Pro-Am golf day for his clients and together we raised over ten thousand dollars for the Canadian DiabetesAssociation! This was a special cause for me because my grandfather (who is 95 years old!) has diabetes and has been living with it for much of his life.
6. What kind of work outs do you do to prepare for a day on the golf course?
I do a combination of things, some weights mixed with stretching and cardio… All golf specific moves to strengthen the areas of my body that allow me to make the best golf swing possible. I also love to do hot yoga, it helps me relax and work on focus and strength all at the same time!
7. What does a typical day look like for you?
Well, I have been doing a “boot camp” when I have been home in Birmingham, which entails starting with a workout at the course at 7am and then spending the rest of the day until about 6pm working on areas of my game that need work and playing… All to get ready for the Q-School process which starts in about a month! I am feeling great about how far my game has come in the last few months so it keeps me encouraged to continue working hard.
8. What is the last book you read?
Becoming Myself by Stasi Eldridge
9. Is there a particular song that you like to listen to when you warm up?
I usually just listen to Pandora while I stretch and get ready for the day, nothing specific just something to relax my mind and help me feel ready for whatever I need to accomplish that day!
10. How did you get into sailing?
Well my parents have a sail boat and we used to take it over to the Bahamas every summer and live on it for a few months… My first trip over there I was 9 months old! I have always loved the water and grew up feeling connected to the ocean as it was such a big part of my childhood. Also, those trips were the most amazing time for my family, as the 5 of us spend so much quality time together. I truly believe that is why our family is so close, all thanks to our sailboat “Sheer Bliss"
11. Do you have a celebrity crush?
No, not really… Right now the only person on my mind is my soon to be husband Trey!!
12. What’s your favorite app on your phone?
Hmm… That changes all the time but for now I’d have to say Pinterest… I am planning my wedding while traveling this season so I love all the ideas on there!
13. Are you a Starbucks or Dunkin person?
I prefer Dunkin, but I have been up in Canada a bit this summer and I think my new favorite is Tim Horton’s!
14. What is your favorite thing to do after a long day of playing golf?
Unwind with my family, even if I am tired I never mind chasing my nieces and nephews around!
15. What is your guilty pleasure?
I am a sucker for sweets. I try to refrain from even buying them because if they are in front of me I don’t really have much power against them! Especially anything chocolate...
16. How has being on Big Break changed your life?
Wow, where can I even begin. BigBreak led me to make some lifelong friends (including other Golf4Her ladies Mallory Blackwelder and Sara Brown). It gave me the exposure I needed to even continue playing golf professionally, it helped me feel confident in any situation I need to take on… Oh, and it brought me to the person I am going to spend the rest of my life with! (My fiancé is the son of my Big Break NFL Partner Al DelGreco, and yes, Al was the matchmaker!)
17. Do you have a strange superstition that you swear by?
I’m not really a superstitious person, although when I am playing well during a round I will avoid changing golf balls… I guess that is slightly superstitious.. I try to live by the motto that God has a wonderful plan for me and for my life and he has me on the course to achieve many things through Him so no matter what I eat for breakfast or what socks I wear (trying to think of some crazy superstitions), it will all work out in the end.
18. What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you on the course?
It’s funny, I always think back to times that seemed so embarrassing and then once they are over they never seem to be as bad as you think they are… I can remember one time in college when I tried to hit a shot from up against a tree (one I really had no business trying to play) and I completely missed the ball. I couldn’t really believe it happened and I just smiled and started laughing! My playing competitors must have thought I was crazy!

Golf4Her: In The Rough With Tiffany Joh
Had
a chance to chat with LPGA tour player and Golf4Her Ambassador Tiffany Joh
prior to her heading out to the US Open! Here is a quick 18 with Tiff:
I
grew up playing at the First Tee of San Diego, I used to always get dropped off
by my dad (Free babysitting!) So I didn't have anyone in particular that
inspired me to play, but my dad was definitely a big part of the reason I
picked up the game.
2.
What other hobbies do you enjoy other than golf?
Surfing,
working out, eating tacos
3.
What is your go-to or favorite snack to always keep in your golf bag?
Fish
tacos, but those don't pack that well, so any type of candy (cough skittles)
4.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
My
coach from UCLA always told me "Don't sweat the small S***."
5.
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far?
Probably

ProKids Golf Academy (First tee San Diego), and LPGA USGA Girls Golf
7.
Is there a particular song that you like to listen to when you warm up?
I
don't really listen to music when I warm up, but Marina Alex and I have a
collaborative spotify playlist called "Just need to Relack" (Asian
Joke) that we both will add songs to. Right now I'm obsessed with the
song "Above the Clouds of Pompeii" by Bear's Den. Anything
acoustic-y is right up my alley.
8. Do you have a motto you live by?
YOLO.
just kidding. I don't have a motto but I recently heard a cool quote:
"Smooth seas never made a skillful sailor."

Chris
Pratt
10. What’s your favorite app on your phone?
Surfline
11.Are you a Starbucks or Dunkin person?

Spicy.
16.Where do you get your sense of humor?
Probably
my family, we never really take anything seriously.
17.Do
you have a strange superstition that you swear by?
Not
really, but my friend Mariajo Uribe once told me that she never clips her nails
once a tournament has already started and ever since then I've never done
it either.
18.What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you on the course?
Pushing my push cart into a creek in a college golf tournament.

Golf4Her, an online golf clothing retailer, will be outfitting Blackwelder with all of the labels that are represented on their website (www.golf4her.com). Blackwelder said about Golf4Her, "I feel like I have the best deal on tour because I get to wear so many different brands that display my personal taste of clothing on the course!"
She will be working with Abigale Lynn, a new fashion-forward accessory label, to create a “Mallory inspired” line of ball markers. These ball markers can be used on a hat clip or on a new accessory, the ball marker bracelet which she will be wearing this season.
She is working with Pukka Headwear to design a custom headwear with her signature “MB” logo. "There are so many different options for hats and I can’t wait to wear all of my unique designs," said Blackwelder.
The newest sponsor is the transportation company SuperShuttle. She is so happy to have their support for this season! You will see the SuperShuttle logo on her golf bag and also be wearing their logo on her shirt. For transportation, especially to and from the airport, SuperShuttle is the way to go!
All of us at Golf4Her wish you a kick-ass season! Go get that card.
