8 Tee-Time Tips to Help You Prepare for a Fun & Exciting Golf Season! When you’re heading to the fairway for a round of golf this summer, don’t forget that is still a sport that demands a little body prep work before you swing. Aside from wearing adorable polo shirts and plaid skirts, every Diva golfer needs to remember how to stay safe out there on the golf course!
Whether you’re an amateur or expert golfer – or just playing caddy this season – you’ll need a plan that will keep you on the course all summer long. Diva Village shares some tips on how to play it safe this golf season:
- TIP #1: START WITH A WARM-UP
winging heavy clubs, shifting your weight for perfect form, and exercising that upper body while carrying your golf equipment are going to give your muscles a workout, so you need to be prepared. Do some stretching and strengthening exercises to help boost circulation to your key muscle groups and increase oxygen flow throughout your entire body. A good warm-up will help you prevent injury and allow your joints to go through their full range of motion when needed.
- TIP #2: TRY A HOT PACK
Warming up cold muscles and joints with a hot pack is another way to prepare for your golf game, and can be especially effective if you’re short on time. Apply the hot compress to the core muscle groups to increase circulation and improve flexibility.
- TIP #3: DRINK UP
Make sure you stay well hydrated while you’re out in the sun and on your feet; it’s easy to forget that water bottle when you’re busy on the course, but you’ll need some refreshment throughout the game (and even when practicing) so you can stay healthy and in great shape.
- TIP #4: WEAR THE RIGHT SUN GEAR
A wide brimmed hat, light-colored clothing, and plenty of sunscreen are essentials for a golf game in the summer sun. Make sure you’re well-equipped with the right sun protection and clothing so you can focus on the game, and not spend your time worrying about sunburn and sun-damaged skin.
- TIP #5: USE A GOLF CART
Don’t put excessive stress on your back, knees, and joints by trying to carry heavy clubs and golf gear on your own. If you don’t have a caddy, make use of a golf cart so you can transport your equipment with ease.
- TIP #6: WATCH THOSE SHOULDERS
Your shoulders and upper body will undergo a considerable amount of stress during those long golf games, so make sure you’re maintaining a healthy posture and good form at every step of the game. Always keep shoulders and hips in a straight line, and engage your abdominal and chest muscles during your swing for the most fluid movement.
- TIP #7: MANAGE PAIN IMMEDIATELY
Don’t ignore pain that is a result of inflammation or a pulled muscle; taking painkillers can help temporarily, but you may need to visit a chiropractor or orthopedic doctor for a complete checkup and treatment.
- TIP #8: DON’T PUSH YOURSELF TOO HARD
Overexerting yourself in the hot sun can lead to dehydration, heat stroke, or excessive fatigue. Know your limits and take frequent breaks if you have to.
Preparing for a golf game isn’t very different than getting ready for a workout, but there are some key muscle groups that you’ll need to stretch and strengthen before you head to the golf course. Look forward to a safe and fun summer with these eight tips, and you’ll be well on your way to a terrific season!
