Golf Fashion: 3 Tips On How To Wear Polka Dots

We love how the new polka dot trend disproved the traditional notion that polka dots shouldn´t be worn when you´re passed third grade. Long before we saw lots of dots trending the runway and copied by many fashion bloggers, we already had a heart for this print specifically in bigger sizes. It's quickly becoming one of this fall's hottest fashion trends on the golf golf course.

Something about black and bronze polka dots that make us think of charming vintage styles. The Polka Dot Palette ladies golf collection by GG Blue is a modern twist on this classic styling.

Here are 3 tips on how you can wear this dotty trend on the fairways this fall:

Single Dots
In wearing polka dots, most of us lean more to wearing it singly through a simple top  that complement your figure. If you have a very slim figure, go for bigger polka dots to contrast your leanness. If you have a fuller figure, opt for smaller polka dots. If you´re in between, you have more freedom to choose. This is important if you´re wearing a single polka dot sweater or outfit.

Mix Polka Dots in Various Size
No, we're not crazy. But if you don't do it right, you will look it! A very creative and the most trendy way of wearing polka dots is by mixing together various sizes and colors of dots – big dots with small, black dots with whites or polka details with transparent effects.

A Peep of Polka Dot
Having a hint of Polka dots in your outfit is a polished way of wearing this trend. A peek of dots adds fun to a plain look and spices up a printed outfit.  We love the polka dot trim in the GG Blue Sandie golf polo.
So are you a fan of polka dots?

Golf OOTD: Yellow and Black

Cross Golf Outfit - shop golf4her.com/cross

Yellow is a color that immediately grabs your attention in the most direct way possible. It's used liberally in various warning signs and labels. It's bright, loud, and holds the eye instantly even more so than white. It's a color representative of spring and summer, at times festive and giddy.

When you decide to wear yellow, let's face it: you have just decided that you want to be noticed, and not in the most subtle way possible.

Wearing yellow with just about any other color in the spectrum can easily become a fashion land mine. For instance, alternating yellow and black in an outfit may make you look like a human-sized bumble bee. Yellow and orange in an outfit is rather garish, as two loud colors close to one another in the color spectrum tend to clash. In general it's the brighter shades of color that will clash badly.

Yellow and most other medium colors such as gray and brown can potentially become a fashion misstatement. Also, offshoots of these colors, beige, dark brown and the lighter grays may not compliment yellow very well. Strong colors like orange, green, purple and red should be avoided with yellow altogether in the same attire.

Surprisingly, certain shades of blue match with certain shades of yellow, and to clarify the earlier assessment, certain shades of gray. However, bright/light blues with yellow represent another range of garish color combinations to be avoided.When mixing with medium colors, the yellow should be toned down to a shade similar to pastels, and the medium color should be deep and rich. This makes for a pleasing contrast, for instance, a pastel yellow blouse and medium gray pants or skirt combination.

Below is a guideline to aid you in deciding how to wear yellow:
  1. Women: a rich navy blue skirt compliments a pale yellow blouse or top. The skirt may even have a fin e pattern print, like polka dots or hound's tooth. The same scheme may be applied with a charcoal gray skirt. Yellow should be avoided in any dress except for a formal gown or a sundress. In a formal gown, you want the yellow to be pale, a subtle effect while still drawing the eye. A bright yellow summer dress is likely to have some kind of design to break up the solid color, like a floral print.Yellow slacks should be avoided. A yellow cotton shorts outfit looks good and yellow should be avoided in shoes.
  2. Men: A pastel yellow dress shirt (perhaps with a white collar) works well with dark gray, navy blue, or black slacks. Everything else in casual wear is a go; shorts, t-shirts and other casual wear. Yellow in paler shades is a light, summer color for just about every informal occasion. However, yellow should be avoided in all but a dress shirt in business and formal wear. In sportswear, yellow blends with white and other lighter colors, but should be avoided in footwear.
Oddly enough, weather conditions tend to play a factor for people when deciding what colors to wear.It is far more appealing to be seen wearing yellow on a bright spring or summer day than on a dark and rainy day in fall or winter. Even on rainy days in the spring or summer, people tend to tone down on the bright colors, more than likely a subconscious decision.

The range of colors that accentuate yellow in most clothing attire are the dark tones and shades. Charcoal grays, deep browns, royal blue and similar colors make a good pairing with yellow. A suggestion is to use muted shades of yellow in these color combinations so as not to jar the eye from one part of the outfit to the other.

In closing, yellow is a prominent color that walks a fine line between appealing looks and outright garishness, but with a good eye on coordinating it with other colors and a little care, can be very stylish.

    More Reasons to Love Abacus this Fall

    The season has officially transitioned from summer to fall here in the Northeast United Sates, so it's time to say good bye to the skorts and hello to sweaters.

    Whether you are a die-hard like me who enjoys playing golf in all the unpredictable weather conditions Mother Nature can throw at us or a weekend-warrior rooting your kids on at an early morning scrimmage, you need versatile garments to keep you warm, dry and comfortable no matter what you're doing!

    Abacus wind garments are one of our absolute favs this fall. Abacus brings us golf and lifestyle apparel you can count on no matter what the condition. The best part is, abacus apparel is versatile. It can take you from the golf course to the office or from a hiking trail to the bunny hill.

    Abacus is not only functional, their garments are stylish with a classic design, so they last season after season. They effectively protect against wind, light rain and cold. But just as important is the fact that they are lightweight and as comfortable as a sweater. The raindrops don’t stick to the surface. You continue to be dry and warm. And folded up they take a minimum of room in your golf bag.

    Amongst other fabrics they use softshell in their wind garments. It’s wind and watertight with good breathing abilities and is available in stretch fabric. The garments are pliable and comfortable to play golf in, even when it’s cold. Who knew golf apparel could be so fashionable!?

    Our favorite foursome includes these great wind garments:
    {abacus wind | Golf4Her.com}
    1. abacus Swanston Knitted Wind Stop (Dark Red) | $120
    2. abacus Niblick Full Zip Wind Stop (Vanilla) | $140
    3. abacus Westray Cable Knit Wind Stop (Vanilla) | $140
    4. abacus Cowal Cable Knit Zip Wind Stop (Navy) | $170

    But abacus brings us more than just great outerwear, their 'On Tour' collection brings you from the office to the golf course with style and function.

    The abacus 'On Tour' collection refers to the garment you wear nearest the body and includes Polo shirts, trousers and other items. These garments are designed to be worn both inside and outside, on the course, at work, at leisure -- wherever!

    These garmets can be worn by themselves on hot days and under other garments on cold, windy or rainy days. These garments are made of cotton or in polyester drycool, a material that transports sweat and body moisture out through the fabric. No matter how warm it gets, your skin will feel cool and dry. Odor control for fresh-all-day confidence. Polygiene® is an active odor control technology for the treatment of high performance materials. By safely and effectively eliminating odor-causing bacteria from clothing and fabrics. Polygiene provides natural, long-lasting odor protection for active people.

    My new favorite obsession this fall has got to be the new abacus Alicia Rugger shown below. It comes in two of the hottest color trends for the fall 2010 season.

    {abacus On Tour collection | Golf4Her}

    1. abacus Alicia Rugger (Orchid) | $85
    2. abacus Hirsel Adjustable Web Belt (White) | $20
    3. abacus Alicia Rugger (Sulpher) | $85
    4. abacus Prestbury Classic Sportbag (Black) | $55

    Abacus' autumn/winter collection is a fusion between town and country. The line offers new colors, patterns and fabric updates in conjunction with a classic color palette that includes dark sea blue, light blue, dark red, navy blue and vanilla. A new addition is the creative, urban palette created specifically for the autumn 2010 collection. It features sporty sulphur yellow and eucalyptus green along with more neutral shades of grey, white and black.

    View the entire abacus autumn/winter collection at Golf4Her.com.

    So, if you are looking for a smart and fashionable suggestion on how to spruce up your fall wardrobe and incorporate versitile pieces that you can wear on and off the golf course, we suggest that you check-out abacus. Trust me, you are going to love everything!

    Making Your Mark!

    When it comes to golf, I am a sucker for anything that helps me personalize my game and express myself on the golf course! One of my favorite new accessories is the Tin Cup ball marking device. It enables you to "Make Your Mark" on your golf ball. Just pick your favorite design and which Sharpie color you want to use, and away you go.

    {Tin Cup available at Golf4Her.com}
    There are a bunch of fun designs to choose from. This month I am using the Tin Cup Awareness Ribbon design and coloring it in using my Pink Sharpie to support Breast Cancer Awareness. What's great about this one is, you can change it up to support any cause that you are passionate about.

    {Awareness Ribbon, includes Pink Sharpie}
    Some other fun designs include:
    1. Tin Cup 'Luck of the Irish' (4-leaf Clover) | $19.95 (includes Green Sharpie)
    2. Tin Cup 'Fleur Di Lis' | $17.95
    3. Tin Cup 'Lone Star' | $17. 95
    4. Tin Cup 'One Way' | $17.95

    When I heard that this product was voted One of the Best New Overall Products at the 2010 PGA Merchandise Show, I, of course needed to have it!

    Plus, it's easy and fun to use. The Tin Cup is composed of a 100% stainless steel shell and has either an engraved or stamped design on it.
    1. Use a permanent ink fine point or ultra fine point pen - we prefer Sharpies!
    2. Place a golf ball under the Tin Cup
    3. Trace or color the logo with the pen (color of your choice)
    4. Let the area dry a few minutes before use
    Get the kids involved. Give them a bunch of balls, their favorite Tin Cup design and a Sharpie (with caution!) and let them color away.

    Golf4Her has added this item to the 'Pretty In Pink' Webtique. A percentage of the sales from the Awareness Ribbon design will be donated to Birdies for Breast Cancer, a charity founded by LPGA tour member, Cristie Kerr. Learn more >>

    USGA Rules 12-2: Identifying Ball
    The responsibility for playing the proper ball rests with the player. Each player should put an identification mark on his ball. If a player has reason to believe a ball at rest is his and it is necessary to lift the ball in order to identify it, he may lift the ball, without penalty, in order to do so.

    Before lifting the ball, the player must announce his intention to his opponent in match play or his marker or a fellow-competitor in stroke play and mark the position of the ball. He may then lift the ball and identify it, provided that he gives his opponent, marker or fellow-competitor an opportunity to observe the lifting and replacement. The ball must not be cleaned beyond the extent necessary for identification when lifted under Rule 12-2.

    If the ball is the player's ball and he fails to comply with all or any part of this procedure, or he lifts his ball in order to identify it when not necessary to do so, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.

    If the lifted ball is the player's ball, he must replace it. If he fails to do so, he incurs the general penalty for a breach of Rule 12-2, but there is no additional penalty under this Rule.
